Revegetation Potential

REVEGETATION POTENTIAL

Revegetation potential is a rating of the ability of the soil to support revegetation
efforts following construction-related disturbance.

Soils with poor revegetation potential, classified in Appendix J as "poorly suited" and "unsuited," are generally well to excessively drained and may not revegetate easily because drier soils have less water to aid in seed germination.

Such soils are not conducive to successful restoration and revegetation, which help maintain soil productivity and prevent erosion following ground disturbance from construction activities.

The "poorly suited" and "unsuited" ratings mean that soil properties are unfavorable, and limitations can only be offset by special design, extra maintenance, costly alteration, or other extreme measures to overcome this limitation.

Along the proposed pipeline routes, 58.8 miles (53.9 percent) of the soils have
poor revegetation potential.
